‘Calling Barnsley’ is a unique collaborative project that brought together the creativity of Barnsley College students and the voices of people in Barnsley.’
Commissioned by Storying Barnsley, this ambitious project has sen us transform a classic phone box into a dynamic storytelling space, offering a captivating glimpse into the heart of Barnsley through powerful monologues that reflected the rich and diverse stories of the borough.
Alongside the phone box, our Engagement Officer Rachael has been facilitating storytelling workshops across Barnsley with community residencies at The Civic,Feels Like Home and The Salvation Army in Goldthorpe. The phone box is currently in residence at The Civic in Barnsley. Come on down to hear a local story. Who you gonna call?
"Calling Barnsley does what LUNG, and strong communities do best. These monologues weave specific, individual human lives into a collective experience that still lets every voice shine. It’s a brilliant achievement by LUNG, and by Barnsley - and whether you know the place or not, it’s for you."
– Chris Thorpe, Writer and Performer
We’re proud to announce that the stories from ‘Calling Barnsley’ will be published by Faber & Faber this autumn. To celebrate, we are having a book launch at The Civic on Friday 7th November. Ticket holders will be treated to a live performance of these electric stories, an exclusive Q&A with the project creators and a free, signed copy of the book. Get your tickets here
